Our primary function is to facilitate connection and provide support for the production of research excellence and translation. Within the ANU, our remit is to provide leadership for the diverse communities of researchers in and across all centres working in or with humanities disciplines or methods. We also enable opportunities that can come from interpersonal, interdisciplinary, and cross-institutional engagements beyond disciplinary or university communities.

As the HRC approaches its 50th anniversary celebration, our commitment to engaging with matters of public culture has grown to reflect the increasing urgency of public awareness of the value of critical thinking, collaborative and multidisciplinary research, and ethical leadership. We facilitate networks and teamwork between cutting edge research and cultural and civic institutions, and support the development of research that contributes to the intellectual and cultural life of the nation, and the people and communities with whom we work.

A prominent role for the humanities in public discourse has never been more evident or necessary. We invite you to join us in reflecting on the lessons of the past and engaging in conversations about the issues that confront us now and into the future.
