Helen was Curator of Photography at the National Gallery of Australia from 1985-92 and joined the Art Theory Workshop at ANU School of Art in 1996. She took on the role of the Director of the Centre for Art History and Art Theory in 2014 and was appointed the Sir William Dobell Chair of Art History in 2014. She is a Fellow of the Academy of the Humanities.
