Dr Jeremy Simpson holds a PhD and Honours degree in Sociology and a Bachelor of Social Science from the University of Sydney, where he has taught sociology for seven years, specialising in the sociology of terror and terrorism. Dr Simpson's specialist research area is in the sociology of risk as it pertains to terrorism and conflict in de-stabilised societies, in particular Afghanistan and the immediate region. His other areas of interest include the sociology of violence and conflict and the sociology of Pierre Bourdieu. He is currently on detachment from his role as a Research Advisor to the Ministry of Education of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, and is a Research Consultant to Pearl Horizons Consulting as implementing partner for GIZ GmbH in Afghanistan. His most recent scholarly appointment was as Visiting Scholar to the Afghanistan Research and Evaluation Unit, for whom he has also undertaken research capacity-building and consulting. Dr Simpson is currently at work on his first book, based on his current research on the everyday experience of living with conflict-related risk in Afghanistan.
