Incoming HRC Head presents the annual Michael Volkerling Memorial Lecture at Te Papa
Tuesday 30 November 2021
Professor Kylie Message delivered the 2021 Michael Volkerling Memorial Lecture at Te Papa Tongarewa Museum of New Zealand.
The lecture explored the role that museums play as sites of cultural and political exchange, and focused specifically on the relationship between museums, citizenship and political reform movements in the last two decades. In her lecture, Professor Message asked how national museums today might respond to articulations of citizenship that go against the majority view of acceptable ideology and behaviour, to engage with what she calls a ‘citizenship of hate’.

Professor Kylie Message is the incoming Head of the Humanities Research Centre.
