Dr Kim Huynh to lead working group on new Australian Carer’s Statement
Following on the HRC’s submission to the Parliamentary Inquiry into the National Carer’s Strategy, Deputy Director Kim Huynh has been commissioned to lead a working group to draft a new Australian Carer’s Statement. The Statement seeks to increase the recognition of unpaid carers and serve as a model for improving the quality of public language. An initial draft evokes the leaping strength and nurturing image of kangaroos and begins, “In Australia, caring abounds. Caring abounds, as the first act we encounter in life, natural and ever present. Because caring abounds, it is often taken for granted, as women’s work ...”
The working group will develop several options, one of which will become the Australian Carer’s Statement.
